Postgraduate education

Post-graduate level education is the level of education above that of initial registration/qualification. Healthcare education at post-graduate level equips professionals with an advanced knowledge and skill in their chosen profession.

Tuition fees are paid for all students who have secured an NHS Wales funded place on a course. Students may also be entitled to a salary or bursary. For more information please see NHS Wales Bursaries.

Some of the post-graduate education that WEDS commission is detailed below, this is not an exhaustive list. In addition to this, funding may also be provided, in certain circumstances, for healthcare education and training where the need has been identified from the workforce plans and/or Welsh Government strategy.

Community nursing

Provides qualified nurses with the specialist skills and knowledge to undertake a community nursing role.

Pharmacy

Provides the registered pharmacist with the knowledge and expertise required by a clinical pharmacist to input optimally into patient care.

For qualified healthcare professionals who have not practised for a while or registration with their professional body has expired.

Advanced/extended practice

Healthcare professionals can undertake a single stand alone module or a full masters degree to support them in their extended role.

Non-medical prescribing

The prescribing of medicines, dressings and appliances by health professionals who are not doctors.
